Hall of Fame of Delaware Women banquet on tap March 16
At the 25th Anniversary Celebration of the Hall of Fame of Delaware Women, five women whose purposeful lives and accomplishments have positively affected the citizens, the culture and the climate of the state of Delaware will be honored.

The 2006 Hall of Fame inductees are the Honorable M. Jane Brady (Government), Felicia A. Dorman (Community Advocacy), Lolita A. Lopez (Health Care), Betsy Rawls (Sports) and Loretta Walsh (Government).

The public is invited to join the Delaware Commission for Women, sponsor of the annual Hall of Fame event, at the awards ceremony in the Gold Ballroom of the Hotel DuPont on March 16, to pay tribute to these outstanding Delaware women as they receive one of the state’s most prestigious awards.

Betsy Rawls winner of 55 Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tournaments, including 8 major championships, ranks fourth in LPGA career wins and was the first woman to win four U.S. Women’s Open titles. As the leading money winner on the LPGA tour in 1952 and 1959 and then LPGA Tour Director for 6 years, Rawls was a driving force in raising the level of play, recognition and prize money for women’s golf, enabling top young women golfers worldwide to compete as first-tier athletes. Vice chairman of the board of the McDonald’s LPGA Championship, Rawls, of Wilmington, served as executive director of the tournament for 18 years and helped establish women’s golf as a major sport that raises millions for charity. A member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, Rawls was a 2005 honoree of the Memorial Tournament, founded by Jack Nicklaus, for having “contributed to the game of golf with conspicuous honor.”
